Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997

This walking tour starts from a short visit to the Korea University Museum, which preserves a national treasure, the map of East Palace. This conference tour takes conference attendants around Changdeokgung (Changdeok Palace) and the palace’s garden, Huwon with an English-guide. Changdeokgung is the second grand palace of the Joseon Dynasty, built in 1405 by King Taejong (the 3rd king of the Joseon Dynasty). After the main palace, Gyeongbokgung was completely destroyed by fire during the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, Changdeokgung became the main palace for 270 years. The palace’s garden, Huwon, has preserved the original style of Korean garden design. The traditional buildings are not only harmonized with the landscape, but also the surrounding modern buildings.
